Secretary, Board Member since 2022
I am originally from Mexico, born in Mexico City and raised in Oaxaca, Mexico and identify most as Oaxacan because of this. I immigrated to the United States 21 years ago. I am indigenous. I am the mother of Ariadna, Karla and Joseph, my greatest treasures. I am a wife, daughter, mother, sister, friend, comadre, leader of the people, and I am a Business Woman.
As an immigrant I live the challenges that my people have in my community. I believe that together we can create sustainable economies, governed by ourselves with values of solidarity, cooperativism, and unity among women because in my Oaxaca these values are lived and it is a lifestyle.
I have worked in the community for more than 25 years as a volunteer; executing projects, facilitating, and organizing the community in health campaigns or political campaigns challenging systems of oppression. I believe that together we can create a world where many worlds fit–where the center is human well-being and harmony and respect with our ecosystem.
I have been co-founder, owner and worker of a cooperative for two and a half years. This gave me the opportunity not only to learn, but also to decide how many hours to work, how much to earn, how to govern ourselves and how to make decisions, manage contracts and develop many other skills needed to run a business.
I am currently Co-founder and owner of the cooperative “De Colores Collective LLC,” along with two other wonderful warrior women. I never imagined that we could lead our own business using our own hands and resources. De Colores is giving us the opportunity to elevate our personal and business skills, it gives us the opportunity to take care of each other both personally and professionally, it gives us the opportunity to bring food to our table to support our families, our children, and it gives us the opportunity to be a role model for other women. I dream of being financially sustainable and that De Colores is a sustainable Cooperative business that gives other women like me the opportunity to fulfill their dreams.
