Development and Communications Manager: Spanish/English

Position Summary

Prospera is a cooperative leadership and entrepreneurship organization that is led by and for Latina immigrant women. We are building a future where all Latinas have the leadership skills and community of support we need to create our own fulfilling work and become change makers. 

Prospera is excited to add a new Development and Communications Manager that will partner with our Director of Development and Communications Manager to support in fundraising and communications.

We are looking for a culturally competent person to support the growth of the organization with their skills in development and communications. Key responsibilities:

Development – Grants and Major Donors Gift Processing and Reporting – 45%

  • Support development team with grant writing
  • Create and maintain development calendars for reports and proposals. 
  • Support with development timeline/tracking systems to monitor communications initiatives, grant application and report deadlines.
  • Support strategy with Donors Advised Fund and major donors (including stewardship and appeals, prospects, process gifts, regular communications, acknowledgement letters,…) 
  • Maintain donor database – Salesforce including entering data, running reports, and ensuring up-to-date and accurate information, and organizing and maintaining department files.

Communications – 55%

  • Collaborate with the Development and Communications Director to create message development, media engagement, drafting and editing content including articles, blogs, social media posts, and other external and internal communications.
  • Identify and tell stories that demonstrate the impact of the nonprofit on our community.
  • Collaborate to create regular communications – includes design, writing and editing content.
  • Support with updating Prospera website.
  • Create, schedule and share engaging content on all social media channels (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Linkedin) and support with moderating comments and messages for social media channels.
  • Develop creative content – video, infographics, etc.
  • Monitor analytics to track progress and growth, and provide recommendations for improving performance on social media platforms.
  • Help to plan and run special events.

Required Qualifications, Qualities, Skills & Experience 

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in communications, marketing, journalism, English, or related field.
  • Professional writing skills with the ability to quickly create grants, content for blogs, social media, opinion articles, reports and web content. 
  • Bilingual (English & Spanish); must have excellent English written and verbal communications skills.
  • Ability to take initiative and proactively manage multiple, sometimes competing tasks and projects.
  • Ability to work independently, remotely, and as part of a team.
  • Committed to detail in a fast-paced environment
  • Extremely flexible, with a strong work ethic and an entrepreneurial spirit
  • Team-centered and collaborative
  • Willingness to learn about, and co-create an alternative leadership model that is aligned with our cooperative values. 
  • In-depth working knowledge of social media channels.
  • Knowledge of graphic design preferred (Mailchimp, Photoshop, Canva.com, WordPress)
  • Experience with Salesforce or other CRM a strong plus
  • Basic knowledge of video editing is preferred but not required.

Employment & Benefit Details 

  • Compensation: Starting at 68K commensurate with experience
  • Hours: M-F 9-5 when not working remotely.
  • Location: Currently we are working remotely due to Covid 19 pandemic with occasional in person work sessions (we continue to monitor the Covid 19 situation and this role will be expected to come in to the office in Oakland when it is safe to do so) 
  • Time Off: 4 weeks paid vacation a year + 9 holidays + 10 Mental Health Days, 5-long weekends, 1 weeks of collective vacation in the summer and 1 collective week of vacation in December
  • Sick Time: One day per month 
  • Health Insurance: We offer health insurance paid at 100% for staff and the opportunity for a flexible spending account.
  • Family Leave: According to law.
  • Important information: During the current coronavirus pandemic, Prospera is adhering to health and safety social distance protocols; This role is currently remote. As protocols are adjusted and the pandemic evolves, this position will be primarily based in the Bay Area. We are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of employment Visa at this time.
