Taking a stand…
Prospera supporters, partners, and friends,
Last week the Prospera Team, Karla, Ada, Maria and Claudia came together to reflect about the impact that Donald Trump’s election as the next President of the United States is having on us personally, and particularly what this means for the Latina immigrant women we serve. How does this change us as individuals? As a team? As an organization?
We have agreed to seize the moment, step into our best selves and to boldly pledge our allegiance to all the communities that make this country and the world around us our home — across race, class, religion, gender, age, ability, national origin, immigration status, sexual orientation, gender identity. In particular we pledge our solidarity with, and our deep appreciation for, the communities most affected by the rhetoric of hate that plagues our country.
Many of our clients are afraid and confused about what is going to happen to them, to their families and their communities. While we don’t have the answers they are seeking, we do know that an important first step is to come together, to provide a safe space for self-expression and self-care.
On Thursday we will hold our first Circulo Comunitario with the women in our programs so we can connect with one another, share resources and explore ways to strengthen our connections with other communities and initiatives that are committed to upholding the integrity of all of our communities.
This is a time to affirm that we are not alone, and that we can count on each other to do what is right and what is called for at this critical time of our nation’s history.
And clearly this is a time to ramp up our efforts to strengthen community ownership over local economies. Our commitment to build a vibrant ecosystem of latina-owned cooperative businesses that build wealth in low income families and communities is stronger than ever.
Please join us in this resolve. Make a pledge to stand with us and to invest in the leadership of Latina entrepreneurs.
With love and appreciation,
The Prospera Team
