When J.KINnovations was born, its name carried the initials of family, as a reminder of the roots and values behind the dream. J.KINnovations offers custom embroidery and screen printing for clients all around the Bay Area. For Norma Muñoz, embroidery was more than an art form; it was a passion that began with a single machine purchase in 2018 and grew into a business vision by early 2020.
At first, she thought launching a business meant little more than opening a bank account. But the reality of entrepreneurship quickly revealed itself to be more complex. “I had a lot of information, but I felt stuck,” she remembers. “I didn’t feel supported.”
That changed the moment she discovered Prospera.
What stood out most wasn’t just the educational resources, but the sense of belonging and community. She walked into her first event not knowing anyone, but immediately felt welcomed and seen. In her words: “When you feel good, you can do so many things.”
As she journeyed through the different programs, Prospera created space not only to strengthen her business but to nurture the woman behind it. Through programs like Acompaña and Crece, she found the structure, encouragement, and community she needed. “Acompaña was a base for my business. It made me feel secure and ready to take the next step.”
Before Prospera, her goals were short-term. But the process of learning, connecting, and growing gave her the confidence to think bigger. “Now I dream of working full-time in my business. That’s the difference; I’ve gone from small steps to envisioning a larger future.”
One of her proudest milestones was leaving her full-time job. It had been her dream for a year, but in reality, it took five. Achieving that independence reinforced her belief that entrepreneurship and freedom go hand in hand. Now, she works part-time to dedicate more hours to J.KINnovations.
Now, she steps into a new role as a Fellow in the Vuela program, a position she describes with both pride and humility. “It’s a big responsibility. I feel proud of myself, but I also know it means representing Prospera and showing other entrepreneurs what’s possible.”
For her, the fellowship is an opportunity to solidify systems, expand her client base, and bring someone new onto her team. Her goals for the year are clear: She wants to systematize her business so that she can spend less time on scattered details and more time creating and growing. She hopes to hire her first employee within the year. She wants to expand her client base, and she is also ready to let people see the person behind JK Innovation. For a long time, she preferred to stay behind the scenes, but now she is ready to step into the spotlight, even in front of cameras.
Equally important is her commitment to giving back. “What you give can come back and multiply. Prospera has been like a second home to me. Here, there’s no selfishness. We like to walk hand in hand.”
With her fellowship underway, she envisions JK Innovation becoming not just a business, but a model of resilience and growth for other Latina entrepreneurs. She’s ready to embrace the cameras, share her story more widely, and step fully into her role as a leader.
Her journey, from buying a single machine to joining a fellowship program, is a reminder of what’s possible when passion, persistence, and community come together.
